Our Curriculum

The Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings together: Curriculum Guidance for the Foun dation Stage (2000), the Birth to Three Matters (2002) framework and the National Standards for Under 8s. By following the EYFS parents can be confident that their child will receive a quality experience that supports their development and learning.

The EYFS is based around four themes:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development

Each theme is linked to an important principle:

A Unique Child

Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Positive Relationships

Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.

Enabling Environments

The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

Learning and Development

Children develop and learn in different ways and at different ates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.

The EYFS is also made up of six areas of Learning and Development.  They are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
  • Communication, Language and Literacy.
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy.
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
  • Physical Development.
  • Creative Development.
  • Learning and Development.

The six areas of Learning and Development together make up the skills, knowledge and experiences appropriate for babies and children as they grow, learn and develop.

At Park Hill nursery we like to ensure that children's learning and development reflects what their individual interests, and abilities are When planning for each child's learning and developmental needs we take account of these.
